ulcerative colitis and hla class ii phenotyping in iran
Authors
abstract
ulcerative colitis (uc) is a nonspecific acute and chronic inflammatory bowel disease that diffusely involves the colonic mucosa. the etiology of uc has not yet been elucidated fully. however, many studies have found that immunologic disorders may play a role in the pathogenesis of uc. in addition, due to an increased frequency of uc in families, especially an increased monozygotic compared with dizygotic twin concordance, many implicate genetic factors in the development and regulation of the immune responses, such as the hla class ii genes, as candidates for conferring the genetic susceptibility. we studied the distribution of hladr and dq antigens and duration of sickness in 42 iranian patients suffering from dc using the standard microlymphocytotoxicity technique. the phenotypic frequencies ofhla-dr2 were present in 24 of 84 controls and 18 of 42 patients (p= 0.24, corrected p, not significant). the present study reveals no association between hla class ii antigens and uc, suggesting that the hla-dr2 is not a predominant susceptibility gene for uc in the population studied.

HLA Class I and Class II Genes Distribution of the Sistanis in Iran
Background: The high polymorphism in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes can be used as an identity of individuals to compare with other populations. This extreme polymorphism in the HLA system is accountable for the differences in alleles and haplotypes among ethnic groups, populations, and the inhabitants of many regions. Objective: To define the frequency of HLA alleles and haplotypes am...

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (PT) is one of the endemic diseases in Iraq, and among the suggested predisposing factors are alleles of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system. We sought to investigate the association between HLA-class I (A and B) and -class II (DR and DQ) alleles in a sample of PT Iraqi patients. Methods: lymphocytes of 105 PT patients and 40 controls were phenotyped for H...

Background: Anthropological studies based on highly polymorphic HLA genes pro-vide useful information for bone marrow donor registry, forensic medicine, disease as-sociation studies, as well as designing peptide vaccines against tumors, and infectious or autoimmune diseases. Objective: This study was designed to investigate the genetic relationship of Iranian Arabs and Jews using HLA-class II g...
